Embedded Stethoscope

چکیده
A stethoscope is an instrument used for auscultations to convey heart sounds as well sounds in the other parts of the body. However, traditional stethoscopes are restricted only to audio representation of such sounds and the diagnosis depends on the expertise of the doctor. This project is an attempt to develop an Embedded Stethoscope to capture heart sounds which offers better noise cancellation, signal amplification and also added functionalities like storage, analysis and visual representation of sound signals. The proposed system consists of amplifier followed by a filter for removing undesired frequencies. It is then amplified using power amplifier and this analog signal is converted to digital using the C2000 High Performance 32 bit microcontroller. For visual representation, heart sounds will then be displayed on graphic LCD and also stored on embedded flash memory of the controller. Hence we aim at developing a prototype which offers a low power replacement to the traditional stethoscope which will aid physicians as an effective diagnostic tool.

The stethoscope has been used for many years, and it has been very effective to diagnose certain pulmonologic and cardiologic sounds. From many years healthcare professionals would listen quietly to patients internal organs so they could diagnose from specific sounds of such internal organs. The sound level of an acoustic stethoscope is very low, making heart diagnosis more difficult. In this p...

T HERE are no reliable acoustical data to aid physicians in their selection or use of a stethoscope. Yet, the sole medical utility of any stethoscope is derived from its acoustical performance. It is the purpose of this paper to provide clinicians with objective acoustical performance data on intact and current stethoscopes. Frederick and Dodge' first recognized that the stethoscope was deservi...

BACKGROUND AND AIM Two hundred years ago Laennec, a young French physician discovered the stethoscope, in order to improve the lung auscultation. The stethoscope became the emblematic appendix of the physicians. Nurses use it also to monitor patients and medical students are proud to use it. We critically review the significance of the stethoscope 200 years after its discovery. METHODS Pertin...
